The Andes is the spine of South America supporting differing landscapes and peoples.

In La sierra (the highlands) I found reserved, but genuine hospitality, from the people, maintaining cultural traditions and language in difficult conditions. They have adapted to a land which demands a lot, but provides them with all they need to look after their families. Agriculture, cattle farming and mining industry provide a living for most people of the sierra.

Historical and local rights systems for these communities have often been disregarded in the past, but things have started to change gradually; communities are being made aware of their rights and the natural wealth of their resources. They are looking for a way to protect their country's beauty and to make use of it.
